Capital Credits

Tideland EMC is a not-for-profit cooperative. Therefore, any monies remaining after all expenses are paid are returned to our members through a series of capital credit refunds. Capital credits represent each member's ownership of the Cooperative. These funds are retained at year end to build and maintain the electric system. When our lenders are satisfied that sufficient funds exist to maintain our system and keep pace with future growth, previously allocated capital credits are returned to those we serve. The amount returned to individual members is dependent upon the total paid for electricity during the year for which the allocation was made. Capital credits are normally refunded during the month of December and are either issued as a credit on the member's electric bill or in the form of a check. Should you move out of the Tideland EMC service area, please provide us with your new address so future capital credit checks can be properly delivered. Estate representatives may use the form below to request capital credits for a deceased member. A copy of the death certificate must accompany the form. Return the completed form to:
