Planned Outage: Hyde County 115kV

Planned Outage: Tideland will conduct a three-hour planned outage this Friday morning, January 3, to repair the Hyde County 115kV line which was damaged by a bullet fired from a high powered rifle in early December. Crews will be replacing one span of static wire and splicing in a replacement fiber optic cable. The outage will begin at 12:01 am. Before going to bed Thursday night, January 2, be sure to set a backup alarm clock to prevent oversleeping Friday morning.

More than 2,600 members will be impacted by the outage. This includes all members served by the Fairfield, Engelhard and Swindell Fork substations along with all members on the Rose Bay circuit out of our Ponzer substation It also includes 66 members on the Mattamuskeet circuit. Automated calls are starting being made to notify the affected members and a text message will be sent Thursday morning, January 2. The cost of materials alone to fix the vandalized span is $33,000. A contractor specializing in fiber optic splicing has been hired to make the repairs.
