Member Owned Renewables
Both federal and state tax credits are at an unprecedented high for consumer owned renewable energy projects. So it's not surprising that Tideland members are exploring their options when it comes to going green.
Before undertaking a renewable energy project it is important to clearly define your goals and understand all the implications of owning a generating facility regardless of size. If your goal is to reduce your own energy costs you will most likely find that energy efficiency and weatherization have a much better rate of return. Therefore, we encourage you to take advantage of our free energy audit services before embarking on a renewable energy project. Remember: the cleanest energy is the energy we never use.
If, after considering all your options, you decide you want to pursue a renewable energy project, Tideland recommends that you become a NC GreenPower producer to realize a quicker return on investment. Because the NC GreenPower rate structure is in your best economic interest, Tideland does not offer net metering.

Become a NC GreenPower Generator
NC GreenPower is always working to add more renewable energy resources to our state's power supply. As additional participants elect to support cleaner energy in North Carolina through contributions to the program, additional generation is added to the existing power mix. Tideland EMC believes our co-op members are best served by enrolling their small renewable energy projects in the NC GreenPower program so they can receive premium pricing for the kilowatt hours they produce.
NC GreenPower Small Producer Rates*
Small Wind Systems (10 kW and under) 9 cents per kWh
Small Solar PV Systems (10 kW and under) 15 cents per kWh
Effective January 1, 2011 the rate for Small Solar PV Systems (5 kW and under) will drop to 10 cents per kWh
*Rates are subject to change. Contact NC GreenPower to verify.
