Harvesting With Safety
Electric safety is everyone's business. That's why Tideland EMC reminds you to observe the following safety rules when harvesting.
1) Hold a pre-harvesting safety session before each job. Make sure the area has been examined for power lines and utility poles which must be avoided during harvest.
2) Under no circumstances should a cotton module builder be set up beneath power lines. In fact, cotton module builders should not be within 50 feet of power lines. Electric current can arc and make contact with equipment parked too close to power lines.
3) Make sure laborers and equipment operators know what to do if equipment does come in contact with a power line. If a line is touching your vehicle or equipment, stay in the vehicle and wait for help to arrive. Warn others not to approach the vehicle until the power company has arrived to cut the power off. If the vehicle catches fire or if you must get out, jump clear without touching the ground and the vehicle at the same time. Do not make the mistake of exiting the vehicle safely and then reach back to close the vehicle door; you will be electrocuted. Once you are out of the vehicle safely, shuffle or hop away slowly keeping both feet together. Don't walk or run.
